Wendy uses a variety of treatment options to give the most up to date and informed trauma care possible. Wendy is trained in the use of EMDR and CBT for trauma and is informed about treatment modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Art therapy, Somatic Experiencing and more. She uses elements of various modalities in each session to specifically tailor treatment to the needs of each individual client.

Wendy believes that no matter what a client presents to counselling to work on, there is nearly always some sort of root in a traumatic experience some time in life. When most people think of trauma they think of having or witnessing near death experiences, but trauma is much deeper than this and can be born out of other experiences such as chronic illness, childhood emotional, mental or physical neglect or abuse, domestic partner violence, and any other number of experiences. Trauma can even be born in childhood from things that we characterize as ‘normal childhood experiences’ as adults. This is because as children, our brains haven’t fully developed (specifically the frontal lobe, where we process with language, reasoning and problem solving). So many childhood experiences that seem innocuous now could have had big effects on us as kids. Wendy uses her skills to find those roots and bring them to light so they no longer inform our thinking and behaviours in the present.
