About Fisher Peak Counselling and Consulting

Wendy’s career started in 2006 when she became a Youth Outreach Worker and Children Who Witness Abuse Counsellor after completing her first degree with a minor in psychology. Since that time Wendy has worked with a variety of populations from early years to elder years.

In 2011 Wendy completed her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and in 2015 obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work.

Her combined experience and education lead to establishing Fisher Peak Counselling in 2016 and the rest, as they say, is history.

I began my career in the social services 13 years ago as a youth outreach worker children who witness abuse counsellor. In those 13 years I have worked with a variety of populations from carly years to elder years. In the 6 years I spent working with youth I developed a passion for supporting young people on their journey towards adulthood. As we know. these are some tumultuous. confusing and downright frustrating times for both young people and their parents. As much as we, as parents. want to be the people our kids come to in times of distress, this is often not the case. This is why counselling can be a great alternative option. Counselling gives youth a safe and confidential place where they can get support and information to assist them in dealing with all of the life events thrown their way.

The community of ʔaq’am allowed me the privilege of working in Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis with ʔaq̓amnik̓ for 5 years. There I leamed the importance of intercultural relationships and cultural safety. The Ktunaxa were instrumental in my ability to be where I am today as they allowed me to conduct research for their use as part of the completion requirements for my Master’s degree in Social Work. I am forever grateful for the time spent with the people in this community and the learning I gained there. This community will always hold a place in my heart.

The most recent three years have found me working both with Interior Health in the Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs and in private practice. This has been the most fulfilling time in my career as I love what I do. Seeing people understand their strengths, build their skills and flourish where they once thought they never would, brings me a great sense of joy and accomplishment.
Being raised here in Kootenays, I could not think of a better place to set up my practice and assist people on their journey to wellness.

One cannot forget the more personal side of why we become counsellors. It is said that a high majority of people who enter the social services field do so because they once needed to heal themselves. I include myself in this statistic. My life experiences have been vast and not always positive.
It is this life experience that brought me to where I am today and gives me the passion that I have for
supporting those around me to navigate their own challenges. My clients are often surprised to learn that sometimes. I struggle too. It is important to acknowledge that we are all human, and none of us are perfect, and that’s ok. What we can do is work together to become
e selves through learning, growth and a whole lot of honouring who we are and where we are in our life journey.

I look forward to working with you. Be well.
